July 2022 OBX Events

July is full of fun in OBX, from Independence Day celebrations to kite festivals and First Friday events. You will not run out of things to do when you visit the Outer Banks! Here is a list of some of our favorites!

July 1

6-8 pm

First Friday in Manteo

Every month, join the area’s businesses, restaurants, and galleries to celebrate Maneto’s vibrant downtown. This street festival will make any new visitor fall in love with OBX’s charming coastal communities.

July 2-4

Ocracoke Independence Day Festival

Kick off July 4th weekend off with a flag-raising ceremony at the school circle and the annual Sand Sculpture Contest. Enjoy a classic parade and be sure to find your seats early around the harbor front docks for Ocracoke’s famous fireworks show. (About a 3 hour drive from Corolla)

July 3

11 am-12 pm

Independence Beer Mile

Celebrate, run, then celebrate some more. Adults 21 and over are encouraged to wear their patriotic best for the event. Show your love to the U.S. of A. with a foot race and a few cold ones.

July 4

7:30-9:30 am

Annual Freedom 5k

Take in the sights and sounds of Kill Devil Hills, the heart of OBX. Then, refuel at the post-race party with classic American favorites. (About an hour drive from Corolla)

July 4

9:30 pm

Manteo Independence Day Fireworks

Don’t miss Manteo’s annual fireworks show. Launched over the Roanoke Sound and Shallowbag Bay, find a spot along the downtown docks or a seat at the famed Roanoke Island Festival Park to catch an incredible show with a stunning backdrop.

July 4

9:25-10 pm

Nags Head Fireworks Spectacular

Celebrate Independence Day in Nags Head, OBX. The fireworks will be launched off the ocean pier at milepost 11.5 on S. Virginia Dare Trail, and visitors all along the local town beaches will be able to have fine views of the stunning display over the ocean. (Around an hour drive from Corolla)

July 16 & 17

10 am-4 pm

Wright Kite Festival

A celebration of aviation! At the birthplace of flight, walk through the grounds of the Wright Brothers Museum, learn about the first flights, then put this knowledge to the test outside with Kitty Hawk Kites. (About 45 minutes from Corolla)

July 16 & 17

8:30 am-4 pm

Outer Banks Skim Jam

Head out to the beach near Jennette’s Pier to catch a spectacular on-the-water show by some of the best skim boarders on the East Coast. (Just over 1 hour away from Corolla)
