Enjoy the dog days of summer in OBX with plenty of fun, family-friendly events! Enjoy some delicious watermelon and fig treats, show your pirate spirit, and check out locally made art!

August 4

10 am-4 pm

Outer Banks Watermelon Festival

This beloved local celebration features watermelon themed activities for visitors of all ages and is the perfect way to toast the peak of the summer season on the Outer Banks. (About a 30 minute drive)

June 5

6-8 pm

First Friday in Manteo

Every month, join the area’s businesses, restaurants, and galleries to celebrate Manteo’s vibrant downtown. This street festival will make any new visitor fall in love with OBX’s charming coastal communities. (Around a 1 hour drive from Corolla)

August 6 & 7

Ocracoke Fig Festival

Visitors can enjoy a Traditional Ocracoke Square Dance on August 6, then enjoy a full day of fig-flavored-fun with a Fig Cake Bake-Off, plenty of fig cake samples, a “fig marketplace” with plenty of arts, crafts and baked goods, and lots of games and family-oriented activities for visitors of all ages. (We’d recommend this as a day trip – about 3 hours of traveling to Ocracoke, including a ferry ride!)

August 10 & 11

Outer Banks Pirate Festival

Peg-leg not required. The Outer Banks Pirate Festival will feature a special Scallywag School for kids, photo ops with local mermaids, a living history pirate encampment, and even a daily cannon fire demonstration. (A 30 minute drive away)

August 16 & 17

New World Festival of the Arts

The juried show will exhibit original works from 75 artists from throughout the East Coast. The festival provides awareness of the current trends in the visual arts while showcasing the historic town of Manteo.
